Unorthodox Careers - MC Mentorship Series

Jazz music, film production, dog sports, and tattooing were the topics of the second MCAA mentorship series held on Tuesday 29 October.
In the throes of midterm season, our four alumni shared with current students how they found themselves in unconventional careers, sharing plenty of advice and inspirations.
Poh Wongkham (’21) who majored in computer science, now works as both a computer science researcher and a full-time saxophonist and sets self-imposed goals and milestones that lets him push his boundaries in his craft while still using his CS skills. This challenge Poh faces as a musician, also resonated deeply with Joshua Ngai (’14), a lawyer and part-time tattoo artist with his own studio in Central.
Olivia Zhong (’22), a graduate of the Government and Public Administration programme, competes globally in dog dancing competitions with her Border Collie, Aelia. It was Morningside College’s Captain who inspired Olivia to get a puppy. Olivia is now the only dog dancing trainer in Hong Kong. Kelvin Choy (’16) works at a film production company, but as a sociology graduate, he sees his job as being about people, not films. He has a knack for translating the visions of directors into the language of investors and enjoys connecting people together. His advice was to not waste our youth, as there’s only one day between your graduation and your thirtieth birthday.
